Yes of course, please read our about us page.

What is an non-diagnostic 3D 4D Ultrasound scan?

Ultrasound is high frequency sound waves that are out of the range of human hearing.

Using a transducer the ultrasound machine transmits high frequency sound waves and then detects the small amount of sound that is reflected back. These received sound echoes are used to build up a picture that displayed in 2D, 3D or 4D. (4D is 3D with movement) Your baby is totally unaware and unaffected by these high frequency sound waves.

Ultrasound does not use radiation or x-rays to create images.

What is the difference between 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound?

3D is a still image while 4D adds the dimension of motion so it looks like a video.

How long has ultrasound been in use?

For more than 35 years. Most doctors practicing now could not recall a time when ultrasound hasn't been used to assess women's health and pregnancies.

Is ultrasound safe?

Yes. When used by trained professionals with the lowest possible levels and for the very short periods of exposure there is absolutely no harm caused to mother or unborn baby. This applies to 2D, 3D & 4D ultrasound.

No. You do not need a medical referral to attend our studio.

What should I do prior to the 3D/4D appointment?

Drink plenty of water even days before the appointment to ensure your amniotic fluid is clear. About a half hour before your 3D/4D ultrasound scan, try to drink a fruit juice so that your baby will be awake during your session (unless you are told not to by your doctor).

What should I wear for an ultrasound examination?

For most routine scans we need to see your tummy from the belly button down to your waist line. so loose adjustable clothing is most practical. The ultrasound jelly that we use is water-based and does not mark clothing.

What should I bring to my Ultrasound scan?

Clients attending for a 4D Scan may bring a sweet drink or snack which may help stimulate your baby and help him or her to move into a better position.

When is the best time to have a 3d/4d ultrasound?

That depends on what you are looking to see. Many mothers like coming in twice, early on, 20-24 weeks, when they can see the baby as a whole, and then again at 26-34 weeks to see a more detailed face. Between 28 and 32 weeks, your baby develops more fat and gets a more defined face. After 34 weeks, it becomes more and more difficult to obtain detailed pictures as your baby is running out of room. However all babies are different and we have been successful in obtaining great images all the way up to 39 weeks.

When can I have an ultrasound examination?

4D Scans are generally performed between 16 and 32 weeks gestation. (4 weeks earlier for twins)

How long is the 3D/4D ultrasound session?

Depending on the ultrasound package that you select, your session will last between 10 and 30 minutes. However, plan on spending up to 45 minutes at our studio so that we can send you home with memories to last a lifetime. It is best to arrive a few minutes early to complete some paperwork.

How is the ultrasound examination done?

First you lie back and relax on our adjustable ultrasound couch. Clear gel is placed onto your abdomen - the gel is water-based, harmless and won't damage your clothing. The gel is a couplant that enables the sound waves from the transducer to pass into your abdomen. The technician then places the ultrasound transducer on the gel and directs it towards your pelvis. When the scan is performed in this way it is called Trans abdominal Scanning.

How can I be sure to get the best possible 3D/4D pictures?

Most doctors recommend maintaining a healthy fluid intake, especially while you are pregnant. This will help to ensure your amniotic fluid is clear as well as full. There are many things out of the technicians control like the baby's position and amount of amniotic fluid, etc.

When do I get my 3D/4D pictures and videos?

Less than 5 minutes after your session has ended.

Will my doctor be contacted about the 3d/4d ultrasound?

We do not contact your doctor prior to the scan since this is an elective procedure. We do require however that if you are currently under prenatal care and if you have any concerns, you should ask your doctor. Ultrasound technicians cannot make a diagnosis.

Is 3D or 4D scanning more accurate than 2D?

No. Although 3D and 4D scans are finding increased clinical use they presently offer no advantages over conventional 2D scans in terms of accuracy. Even in the field of Gender Identification 3D/4D is no advantage, however it is sometimes useful for the parents to positively identify the baby's genitals as confirmation of what the technician has seen in 2D. We will not be able to tell if your baby has a medical condition by using a 3D/4D scan.
